Overview
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will traverse parts of Canada, the United States, and Mexico—the first time this century such an event will occur across all three countries. To commemorate this rare celestial phenomenon, Canada Post issued its inaugural eclipse-themed stamp: the Total Solar Eclipse Booklet of 10 Permanent™ Stamps. This limited-edition booklet captures the awe-inspiring moment of totality, making it a significant addition to any collection.
Design & Features
Designed by Richard Nalli-Petta and illustrated by Michal Karcz, the stamp features a combination of photography and illustration, depicting the sun at the moment of totality. The image is printed with a special spot-gloss varnish that emits a glow under black light, highlighting the eclipse against a darkened sky. A thin silver line traces the path of the eclipse across Canada, accompanied by a collage of landscapes along the route, including Niagara Falls and Spillars Cove in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Collectibility & Availability
Canada Post printed 200,000 booklets of 10 stamps, each with a denomination of 92¢, the Permanent™ domestic rate. The booklet is available for purchase at a standard price of $9.90 CAD. This stamp marks a historic first for Canada Post, making it a must-have for philatelists and astronomy enthusiasts alike.
